Child Time

October 15: 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Understanding children’s brain development can help us understand how their perceptions of time can influence the trauma experienced following abuse. This training will look at what happens at various developmental stages as it pertains to a child’s awareness of time. We will use that knowledge to understand how changes in their environment–such as putting them in foster care, changing schools or communities, and altering familiar routines–can actually result in newly traumatizing events for the child each day. We will also explore some ways to respond to the temporal cues when building familiarity for children in care in an effort to minimize ongoing trauma.
