Judge Bill Staley founded the Sarpy County CASA Program, the first CASA program in the State of Nebraska, in 1986. Currently, 22 local CASA programs serve 41 Nebraskan counties.
Since its founding, the Sarpy CASA program has experienced rapid growth. In 2016, the CASA Program included 117 volunteers serving and advocating for 236 children.
In the State of Nebraska, more than 2,000 children are in the system without a CASA. The Sarpy County CASA program, along with the other 40 CASA programs in the state of Nebraska, aims to provide a CASA to every child in the foster care system by 2020.
CASA programs in Nebraska operate in compliance with the Nebraska Court Appointed Special Advocate Act (Nebraska Revised Statutes § 43-3701 et seq.) and National CASA Standards for CASA Programs.
