Healing from Hate: Child and Family Welfare Through the Lens of White Privilege/Supremacy

May 8: 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Child welfare professionals are on the frontlines of working with families who have been affected by racism, both within the child welfare system and beyond. Therefore, it is essential that child welfare professionals are supported in identifying the historical roots, attitudes, and stereotypes that may affect decision-making in their work with diverse populations. Race as a social construct, along with racial assumptions and narratives, has been historically used to create, codify, and justify laws, policies, and practices that dehumanize children, youth, families, and communities and harm them through violence and separation from each other.
